Executive Director’s Corner

Dear MANS Administrators,

Recently, I attended the national gathering of the Council for American
Private Education (CAPE) in Washington, D.C. This is a unique and
powerful gathering of leaders from state CAPE organizations (MANS
serves as the MI CAPE) and the national CAPE Board, which includes the
governing bodies of faith-based, private and independent schools. We
shared ideas, challenges and important trends that are happening all
across the country. For a national perspective on private K-12 education
check out the CAPE Outlook.

MANS had a great turnout for Public Policy Day. Over 80 MANS
administrators pounded the pavement in Lansing visiting legislators and
advocating for their schools on such issues as shared time funding, health
and safety mandate reimbursements and Robotics funding. Later in the
day they heard from several candidates for Governor, Senator Phil Pavlov
(Chair of the Senate Education Committee) and MDE representatives
discussing policy issues that impact nonpublic schools. It was a full and
dynamic day.

MANS Law Day is scheduled for June 26th in Lansing. This has been a
consistently well-attended and informative half-day session for MANS
administrators on legal issues that confront schools. Please mark your
calendar and plan to attend. Registration information will be out soon.
Thank you for your support and commitment to faith-based education.

Sincerely,

Brian Broderick
MANS Executive Director
